Faculty of Science Organises ‘SC MC 2026’ to Enhance Professional Emceeing Skills and Foster Future Communicators

The workshop aims to cultivate vital soft skills and empower students to confidently showcase their public speaking and real-time problem-solving capabilities.

The Faculty of Science at Khon Kaen University recently hosted the “SC MC 2026” professional emceeing workshop, an intensive training programme and competition designed to enhance students’ public speaking, analytical thinking, and impromptu problem-solving skills. The event provided an open platform for students to unlock their full potential, culminating in the announcement of Ms Monarita O’Keefe, a second-year Physics student, as the grand champion of the 2026 competition.

Organised by the Science Student Union, the workshop took place on 18 July 2026 at the Wittayawiphas Room, SC09 Building, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University (KKU), drawing 30 students and staff members. The initiative focused on equipping participants with core competencies in data synthesis, audience engagement techniques, communication psychology, activity design, appropriate language usage, and crisis management. These essential soft skills are crucial for academic success, extracurricular activities, and future career progression. Furthermore, the project aligns with KKU’s strategic goal of fostering global-minded graduates, specifically targeting the development of communication skills and foreign language proficiency.

Assoc. Prof. Somnuck Worawiset, Associate Dean for Student Development and Alumni Relations at the Faculty of Science, stated that the project was initiated to build students’ confidence and sharpen their skills in leading administrative and public events. He emphasised that the university intends to develop skilled communicators who can master audience analysis and lead events with absolute poise, preparing them to become global citizens.

Mrs Benjamaporn Mamook, a Senior Public Relations Officer from the KKU Communications Division who served as the keynote speaker, added that an exceptional master of ceremonies (MC) requires comprehensive preparation, deep audience empathy, and the agility to manage unexpected situations gracefully, turning every stage appearance into a self-development milestone.

Assoc. Prof. Somnuck Worawiset, Associate Dean for Student Development and Alumni Relations at the Faculty of Science, stated that the project was initiated to build students’ confidence and sharpen their execution of administrative and public activities. He emphasised that the university intends to produce quality communicators who can master audience analysis and lead events with absolute poise, preparing them to be global citizens.

Mrs Benjamaporn Mamook, a Senior Public Relations Officer from the KKU Communications Division who served as the keynote speaker, added that an exceptional master of ceremonies (MC) requires comprehensive preparation, deep audience empathy, and the agility to manage unexpected situations gracefully, turning every stage appearance into a self-development milestone.

The event featured a morning lecture and practical training followed by a competitive afternoon session that included impromptu emceeing, scripted presenting, and a “Duo MC Challenge” final round. Participants highly praised the experience, with Mr Theeradol Odphim, an Environmental Science student, noting that the challenge pushed him out of his comfort zone and provided invaluable lessons in overcoming real-time mistakes.

The competition concluded with Ms Monarita O’Keefe securing the first prize, followed by Mr Kantapon Tangphan as first runner-up, Mr Witchayaporn Nasena as second runner-up, and Miss Sakuntala Thankaew and Miss Narumon Phetthai receiving honourable mentions.

Ms Monarita O’Keefe,The champion expressed profound pride, noting that the technical insights gained during the training boosted her confidence and inspired her to continually elevate her communication skills for future university activities and professional pathways.

The SC MC 2026 workshop stands as a testament to the commitment of the Faculty of Science to holistic student development. By nurturing critical thinking, leadership, and public presence, the initiative directly supports Khon Kaen University’s broader institutional strategy to cultivate 21st-century graduates who possess international competencies and are fully equipped to deliver meaningful contributions to society.
