Faculty of Economics, KKU Welcomes Delegates from Lao PDR Banking Institute to Enhance Academic Cooperation and Financial Expertise

The Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen University hosted faculty members and Master’s degree students from the Banking Institute of the Bank of the Lao PDR to foster academic exchange and strengthen regional collaboration in finance and economics.

On 17 July 2026, the Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen University (KKU) held an academic study visit and exchange programme. Asst. Prof. Dr. Jakkrich Jearviriyaboonya, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Development at the Faculty of Economics, presided over the welcoming ceremony alongside faculty members and staff. The event welcomed a delegation of 34 faculty members and Master’s degree students specialising in finance from the Banking Institute, Bank of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The ceremony was held in Room E202 at the General Learning and Basic Skills Development Building, Khon Kaen University.

The Faculty of Economics organised this study visit to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience in economics and finance between the two institutions. The initiative aims to enhance learning, build an international academic network, and pave the way for future collaborative projects and deeper regional integration.

During his welcoming remarks, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jearviriyaboonya, speaking on behalf of the Faculty of Economics, KKU, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the Banking Institute. He noted that this growing academic network, dedicated to advancing knowledge in economics and finance, marks a vital starting point for cooperation between both institutions and countries. He added that the visit signifies a shared commitment to building a sustainable academic connection between Thailand and Lao PDR.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Jearviriyaboonya further highlighted that the programme combined academic lectures, insights into sustainable development, and macroeconomic concepts to help participants enhance key skills for the banking and finance sector. Additionally, study visits promoted mutual cultural understanding. He emphasised that academic cooperation among educational institutions serves as a powerful driver for developing human resources in economics and finance across the region. He expressed his hope that delegates would enjoy the sessions and apply the insights gained to their professional careers.

The study visit featured a diverse range of activities, including academic lectures, panel discussions, and observational visits. Key sessions included a lecture on “Sustainable Development” by Asst. Prof. Jakkraphan Suksawat and a lecture on “Macroeconomic Knowledge” by Asst. Prof. Dr. Jearviriyaboonya, followed by interactive discussion sessions involving delegates from both institutions. The delegation also visited the Khon Kaen University Library and concluded the programme with a visit to the Isan Creative Festival 2026 at the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) Khon Kaen.

This initiative reflects Khon Kaen University’s commitment to international collaboration, lifelong learning, and active community and regional engagement, reinforcing its role as an educational hub dedicated to sustainable academic development in the ASEAN region.
