Khon Kaen University welcomes Senate delegation to gather policy proposals for enhancing workforce and societal well-being

The University Served as a Collaborative Platform to Discuss Key Academic, Public Health, and Governance Policies with Members of the Senate.

Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by its Faculty and Staff Senate, welcomed the Committee for the “Senate Meets the People” Project (Upper Northeast Region). The delegation visited the university to gather input, perspectives, and recommendations from higher education representatives and local citizens. The collected insights will be used to support legislative deliberation, evaluate existing laws, and inform public policy initiatives that address national needs and local contexts.

The meeting convened on 22 July 2026 at the Sarasin Meeting Room, Kean Kallapapruek Building, Khon Kaen University. The KKU delegation was led by Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal and Corporate Communications, alongside Warrant Officer Suphanat Siri-aisoon Setthapongkorn, Chairman of the Faculty and Staff Senate, together with members of the Senate board. The visiting Senate delegation was headed by Dr. Premsak Piayura, M.D., Second Vice Chairman of the Committee, accompanied by committee members Mr. Asadang Sawaengkan, Lieutenant General Wikron Lertwatchara, and committee advisor Police Lieutenant General Kornnaphat Kittiphiboon, along with working group members.

Mr. Yutthana Phothiwihok, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province, also joined the meeting to welcome the delegation and take part in discussions with representatives from various agencies.

This visit is part of the “Senate Meets the People” initiative, which aims to create open platforms across regions to listen to community voices. Feedback, proposals, and challenges gathered directly from local areas will feed into legislative screening and evaluations of existing laws. This is intended to bring public policy formulation into closer alignment with current societal realities and needs.

During the discussion, Dr. Premsak Piayura, M.D. highlighted the committee’s mandate as a key bridge linking public feedback to policy development at the national level. The floor was then opened for discussion, covering several key policy proposals, including:

Adjusting compensation structures for educational personnel funded by the Bureau of the Budget to reflect current economic conditions.
Extending royal decoration eligibility to university staff members regardless of their budgetary funding source.
Advocating for the enactment of a dedicated University Staff Act.
Addressing public hospital crises, healthcare workforce shortages, and disparities within public health insurance funds.
Providing assistance to individuals affected by the Cremation Welfare System for Teachers and Educational Personnel (Ch.P.K.) loan issues and promoting good governance in university administration.
Enhancing consumer protection and surveillance against exaggerated claims in dietary supplement advertising.

This gathering underlines Khon Kaen University’s active role as an academic hub and public forum, connecting governmental, educational, and public sectors to translate policy proposals into practical outcomes. The Senate committee will synthesise these field insights to support legislative reviews and refer key matters to relevant standing committees and government agencies, contributing to sustainable improvements in public administration, workforce welfare, and national development.
