On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, the Division of Legal and Corporate Communications at Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with the Central Blood Bank of the Faculty of Medicine, organised the 18th “Joy of Giving, New Life to Recipients” mobile blood donation drive, held in the first-floor lobby of the Sirikunakorn Building, Office of the President.
A total of 46 individuals – comprising university executives, personnel, students, and members of the general public – registered to donate blood. Following health screenings, 37 donors met the criteria, together contributing 14,800 cc of blood, including one first-time donor, while nine were deferred owing to temporary health restrictions.
Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal and Corporate Communications, stated that the initiative aimed to secure adequate blood reserves for Srinagarind Hospital, supporting both routine medical treatments and emergency patient care. She noted that the event drew strong support across all sectors, reflecting the public-spirited character of the university community. The Vice President added that the Central Blood Bank organises mobile donation units every three months to maintain sufficient supply levels and encouraged donors to maintain good personal health to support regular contributions.
Ms. Krittaporn Akkahat, a staff member from the KKU Academy Institute, explained that she had previously been unable to donate regularly owing to weight and sleep constraints. However, having met the health requirements on her birthday, she registered as an organ donor in the morning and donated blood in the afternoon. She said she was glad to contribute to patient care and intends to stay healthy so that she can take part in future drives.
Similarly, Ms. Orathai Lulongyot, a staff member from the Division of Strategy, completed her 31st blood donation during the event. Having begun donating at age 24, she recalled that her initial concerns about blood loss were dispelled after her first experience. She noted that she continues to donate regularly – currently two to three times a year – to support healthcare services and help patients in need.
This initiative reflects Khon Kaen University’s ongoing role in social responsibility and healthcare support. The quarterly mobile blood drives give staff, students and the wider community a regular opportunity to contribute to regional public health.
