On 27 July 2026, at 09:00 hrs, Khon Kaen University, through the Office of Physical Ecosystem and Environment, hosted a tree-planting initiative in observance of the 74th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X), which falls on 28 July 2026. During the event, participants planted 1,000 Yang Na trees (Dipterocarpus alatus) across the Si Than Lake area within the university grounds.
The ceremony brought together over 300 university executives, faculty members, staff, and students, all united in advancing His Majesty’s royal vision for environmental conservation and the preservation of natural resources.
Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, remarked that the initiative serves as an expression of loyalty and gratitude towards His Majesty the King, while offering royal merit and furthering the royal intent to safeguard nature. Associate Professor Panthongviriyakul noted that the trees planted during the event will mature to provide shade, generate oxygen, and stand as a symbol of collective unity, expressing his hope that the community will nurture them so they grow to benefit society and the nation long into the future.
In his reporting speech, Associate Professor Choopong Thongkamsamut, Ph.D., Vice President for Physical Ecosystem and Environment, emphasised that the effort extends beyond natural restoration to building long-term environmental sustainability. Associate Professor Thongkamsamut stated that these trees will serve as a lasting legacy for future generations, highlighting the importance of conservation while reinforcing the university’s image as a centre of learning and environmental excellence.
This annual commemorative tree-planting activity underscores Khon Kaen University’s ongoing commitment to expanding its green canopy, directly supporting its strategic goal to operate as a sustainable Green and Clean University.
