The College of Computing at Khon Kaen University congratulates Associate Professor Wararat Songpan, Ph.D., on her selection as one of 60 international early-career researchers and engineers to participate in the HPC ACM Summer School 2026. The specialised training programme on High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum Computing convened in Barcelona, Spain.
The initiative was organised by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and ACM Europe at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), ranked as the 16th top supercomputing facility globally and a key quantum hub in Southern Europe. The programme was hosted by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
Assoc. Prof. Songpan expressed her gratitude upon receiving the competitive fellowship, noting that the selection process conducted by the ACM committee was exceptionally rigorous. She highlighted that securing one of the 60 globally allocated positions represented a rare opportunity for a Thai academic in this specialised domain.
During the intensive five-day programme, Assoc. Prof. Songpan participated in hands-on workshops covering advanced technical domains, including running Large Language Models (LLMs), AI architectures, and big data applications on supercomputing infrastructure. The sessions also enabled participants to test programs directly on operational quantum hardware and explore AI-driven analytics for sustainability, with a focus on carbon footprint calculations and climate data modelling.
Assoc. Prof. Songpan remarked that learning directly from world-renowned researchers and technology developers provided valuable insights into building high-performance computing systems and customising quantum libraries to develop semiconductor applications for commercial markets.
This achievement underscores the expanding capacity of Thai researchers in advanced computing technologies and addresses the critical national demand for HPC expertise. Assoc. Prof. Songpan expressed her intention to apply the knowledge and international connections gained from the programme to enhance student instruction and establish collaborative research networks with fellow international scholars to advance computing knowledge in Thailand.
