Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies Hosts ‘ONE JOURNEY’ Project to Enrich Campus Experience and Enhance Essential Student Skills

The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with the Tourism and Hospitality Innovation Programme, organised the “ONE JOURNEY” activity under the Creative Event Project 2026, held on 13 August 2026 at Meeting Room M301, General Learning and Basic Skill Development Building. Assistant Professor Suntaree Buchitchon, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, presided over the opening ceremony, which drew university executives, academic staff, personnel, and students. The project aimed to create shared experiences, build inter-student relationships, and help students adapt to university life through networking, communication, and practical skill-building.

The event featured a specialised knowledge-sharing session titled “One Journey Talk & Learn,” focusing on the themes of “KKU Identity” and “Elevator Pitching.” This session deepened students’ understanding of Khon Kaen University’s identity while sharpening their ability to present themselves concisely and effectively a key competency for academic pursuits, co-curricular activities, and future professional careers. The session’s guest speakers included:

  • Asst. Prof. Anucha Somabut, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Education, Khon Kaen University
  • Mr. Suradech Taweesaengskulthai, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cho Thavee Public Company Limited and Advisor to the Dean of the College of Local Administration (COLA), Khon Kaen University
  • Mr. Phatsakorn Tueprakhon, Educational Officer, Student Development and Alumni Relations Division, Khon Kaen University
  • Mr. Ittiwat Chanchaichit, Educational Officer, Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy (KKBS), Khon Kaen University
  • Ms. Jiraporn Pratomchai, Public Relations Officer, Communications Division, Khon Kaen University
  • Mr. Kamphon Sawasdee, Alumnus of the College of Local Administration (COLA), Khon Kaen University

The project did more than entertain participants – it gave the student organisers authentic, hands-on experience in Creative Event Management. The execution unfolded across three comprehensive phases: the pre-event phase, focusing on conceptualisation, strategic planning, coordination, and preparation; the on-site phase, enabling students to practise real-time event operations, teamwork, and crisis management; and the post-event phase, dedicated to evaluation, debriefing, and capturing lessons learned to inform future improvements.

The Creative Event Project 2026 is a core part of course IN753310 (Creative Festival and Event Management) for third-year students in the Tourism and Hospitality Innovation Programme. Employing Project-Based Learning and a “learning-by-doing” pedagogy, the curriculum allows students to translate theoretical classroom knowledge into hands-on execution. This approach steadily builds essential soft skills, including teamwork, communication, creative thinking, project management, and problem-solving.

“ONE JOURNEY” marks a vital milestone in the university experience, connecting people, shared experiences, and active learning. Through this student-led initiative, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies underscores KKU’s commitment to delivering holistic, practical education that prepares students for academic and professional excellence.
