KKU Partners with Genphosis to Advance Phenomics and Genomics Data, Utilizing AI for Disease Risk Assessment and Precision Medicine

Khon Kaen University’s National Phenome Centre has signed an MOU with Genphosis Co., Ltd. to integrate multi-omics health data, strengthening disease risk prediction and biological age assessment.

On 31 August 2026, at 09:40 hrs, Khon Kaen University (KKU), represented by the National Phenome Centre, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic collaboration with Genphosis Co., Ltd. The MOU covers the “Precision Health Research Cooperation Project through the Integration of Epigenetic and Phenomic Data in the Thai Population”. Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, and Sakarin Boonbanjerdsuk, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Genphosis Co., Ltd., signed the MOU. The ceremony was witnessed by Professor Pewpan Maleewong, M.D., Vice President for Research and Innovation; Assistant Professor Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, Ph.D., Director of the National Phenome Centre; Mr. Smatthaphon Wittawatsakul, Chief Operating Officer of Genphosis Co., Ltd.; and Jarika Makkoch, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Genphosis Co., Ltd. The signing took place at Sarasin Room, Second Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University.

Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, underscored the collaboration’s strategic importance, noting that KKU is pleased to partner with a specialised private organisation such as Genphosis Co., Ltd. The initiative will integrate multi-dimensional biological data—including genetic, epigenetic, phenomic, clinical, and health behaviour data—into a comprehensive health database for the Thai population. This foundation will enable KKU to develop predictive models for assessing disease risk, determining biological age, and optimising preventive healthcare.

“What Khon Kaen University prioritises in this collaboration is not limited to knowledge exchange, but extends to establishing a concrete, continuous research framework,” stated the President. “This encompasses joint research programme development, proposal formulation, database system creation, artificial intelligence model design, and capacity building for researchers at both institutions. Public-private partnerships of this nature serve as vital mechanisms that bridge advanced research and technology with practical application, ultimately generating sustainable benefits for the Thai medical and public health sectors.”

Sakarin Boonbanjerdsuk, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Genphosis Co., Ltd., committed the company to backing the project through international-standard genetic and epigenetic testing. Genphosis will mainly analyse genetic and epigenetic data from biological samples and build an integrated health data interpretation platform to sharpen the precision and practical application of the predictive models developed jointly with KKU.

“We are fully prepared to provide the necessary data, biological samples, and resources to build an in-depth health database for the Thai population,” Dr. Boonbanjerdsuk stated. “Integrating our resources with Khon Kaen University’s expertise in phenomics will drive significant advancements in precision health research and personalised medicine. We anticipate that this cooperative research framework will lead to practical outcomes, commercial innovations, accessible precision health products for Thai citizens, and reinforced academic strength for the Thai health industry on the international stage.”

Assistant Professor Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, Ph.D., Director of the National Phenome Centre, described the Centre’s role, noting that KKU will lead in researching and analysing phenomic, health, and clinical data using advanced technology and bioinformatics. The Centre will serve as the core entity behind the Integrated Health and Multi-omics Database, combining its own phenomic data with the genetic and epigenetic data supplied by Genphosis, to function as vital digital infrastructure for nationwide systems research.

“Furthermore, the National Phenome Centre will apply advanced statistical methods, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI) to multi-dimensional biological data to develop predictive models for disease risk, biological age, and preventive care,” added Assistant Professor Phetcharaburanin. “The team will also co-author academic publications in international journals and secure joint research funding from national and international sources, supporting talent development and technology transfer in line with global advances.”

The Memorandum of Understanding runs for three years, from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2029. It will foster collaboration among faculty, researchers, and staff across both institutions to advance precision health and personalised medicine. By building an Integrated Health and Multi-omics Database for the Thai population, the project will advance disease risk and biological age prediction models and support personalised preventive healthcare. It will also drive further progress in medical research, clinical applications, and the global precision health industry.
