KKU Host Workshop on English for Cross-Cultural Communication to Enhance Global Competency

Khon Kaen University (KKU), through the Research Institute for Development of Teaching Profession for ASEAN, hosted a workshop titled “English for Cross-Cultural Communication” on 6 September 2026 at the Rachawadee Resort and Hotel. Asst. Prof. Jiradawan Huntula presided over the opening ceremony, held as part of a cultural exchange programme with Toho University, Japan.

The workshop aimed to enhance students’ English communication skills in cross-cultural contexts, promote intercultural understanding, and prepare participants for international education, exchange initiatives, and professional careers. It convened 40 participants, comprising KKU students and international exchange students from China, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Nigeria, in keeping with global goals for equitable education and sustainable development partnerships.

The interactive programme featured four experiential learning stations, cross-cultural communication exercises, and structured presentation and reflection sessions. The activities offered practical experience through simulations and cross-cultural teamwork. In an increasingly interconnected global society, proficiency in English combined with cross-cultural competence is essential. It equips students to collaborate effectively across diverse cultural backgrounds, minimise communication barriers, and build positive international relations.

The Research Institute for Development of Teaching Profession for ASEAN anticipates that participants will gain greater confidence in their English communication skills and develop adaptability when working alongside individuals from various cultural backgrounds. This is a fundamental prerequisite for developing global citizens equipped to address 21st-century challenges.
