Researchers from Khon Kaen University earned top honours for their large-scale study on integrating Generative AI to advance AI literacy across higher education.
Khon Kaen University has won international recognition, taking both the Best Paper and Best Presentation Awards at the 8th International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Education (WAIE 2026). The two awards went to the paper “A Large-Scale Analysis of Generative AI Use Cases to Drive AI Literacy in Higher Education”.
The workshop ran in Sapporo, Japan, from 26 to 28 September 2026. The award-winning paper was co-authored by Dr Kitt Tientanopajai, Assistant to the President for Digital, and Prof. Wanida Kanarkat, PhD, both of the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University.
Winning both top awards for a single paper reflects the academic rigour of the study as well as the clarity with which its findings were communicated to an international scholarly audience. The workshop also gave KKU researchers a valuable platform to exchange insights on AI in education with experts from around the world, while showcasing the research strength of the Department of Computer Engineering.
The study addresses a critical challenge in contemporary higher education: how Generative AI can be deployed effectively, critically, and responsibly. By developing practical frameworks for AI literacy, the research aims to prepare both students and institutions to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The achievement aligns with Khon Kaen University’s core strategic mission to drive digital transformation, foster innovative research with global impact, and raise its standing as a leading research-intensive university on the world stage.
