Under the Theme: “Pha Phawet: A Textile of Faith and Shared Cultural Heritage Across the Mekong”

This seminar aims to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and perspectives on literature, arts and culture, rituals, beliefs, and the cultural heritage of communities on both sides of the Mekong River.

The event will feature scholars and distinguished experts from Thailand and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, who will share their insights, knowledge, and experiences.

The program will include a Special Lecture by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niyom Wongphongkham, Vice President for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Khon Kaen University.

Special Lecture: “Decoding Culture and Education through Huup Taem on Pha Phawet: Buddhist Art Inspired by the Power of Faith”

by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jaruwan Thammavat, an expert in Isan literature and folklore.

Another special lecture will be presented on the topic:

“Phra Wet Sando̜n: A Bridge of Friendship toward Diverse Forms of Art”

by Ms. Duangdeuan Bunyavong, an outstanding artist in literature, S.E.A. Write Award-winning author, and senior researcher.

Another key activity is the academic panel discussion:

“Dimensions of Literature, Rituals, and Anthropology on Both Sides of the Mekong”

featuring distinguished scholars and experts.

The seminar will also feature parallel group discussions under the theme:

“Pha Phawet: Preserving Cultural Roots toward Contemporary Creative Economy”

The discussion will be divided into four topics:

Breakout Session 1: “Pha Phawet in the Dimensions of Religion, Tradition, and Beliefs”

Breakout Session 2: “The Many Voices Woven into the Fabric of Faith on Both Sides of the Mekong”

Breakout Session 3: “Pha Phawet and Cultural Preservation”

Breakout Session 4: “Creative Adaptation and Development toward the Creative Economy”

Those interested are invited to join this meaningful event to learn, exchange ideas, and explore the significance of “Pha Phawet” as a cultural heritage that reflects the artistic connections, beliefs, literature, and ways of life shared by communities on both sides of the Mekong River.
