Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy said, “Over 24 years under the name of Faculty of Management Sciences, we have offered programs, performed research and provided services to the communities in the field of business administration and accountancy in order to extend the opportunities in education for the Northeast population. Today, this great change will respond to the multiple academic requirements and the needs of Thai society at the regional and ASEAN levels. In July, 2015, Khon Kaen University has changed the status to an autonomous university. A new institution was founded, i.e., Faculty of Economics for offering various programs that meet the needs of the regional and ASEAN societies. After this, Faculty of Management Sciences asked for changing the name to Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy to be in line with the offered programs. The University Council approved of this on February 6, 2016 with announcement published in the Government Gazette, Number 133, special section 91Ng 4 on April 20, 2016. The name is effective from the following day which marked the birth of Faculty of Business Administration and Accounting
Regarding the strategic plans and operational policies, the dean disclosed that the faculty has a vision to become a leader in business administration and accounting. It will be a center to develop personnel in business administration, accounting and service industry. Thus, strengthening of academics and supporting personnel was achieved, together with the system of IT, organizational management, to promote efficient, modern teaching and learning system.
“Presently, instruction, research, and academic services are conducted with a vision towards excellence in business administration and accountancy. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered: finance, marketing, management, tourism management, hotel and events, and accounting. There is a target to bring all programs for evaluation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the instructional standard in business administration and accounting accepted worldwide. The brand ‘KKBS’ or Khon Kaen Business School will be used.”
“The English name of the faculty is “Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy”. At present, “Business School” is readily understandable and used widely in institutions offering courses in international business administration. This name is usually used with the university’s name, for example, Harvard Business School, which is the School of Business of Harvard University; or Chula Business School, which is School of Business of Chulalongkorn University. Therefore, for efficient communication to the outside world, the faculty will use the name “Khon Kaen Business School” or KKBS. A new symbol designed by weaving the valuable meaning is used as of the academic year 2016.”
“Research and academic services emphasize quality to meet the needs of the area and answer the northeastern and the Me-Kong sub-regional problems. Academic services will be provided to all groups of people and to governmental and non-governmental organizations so that interested people can acquire knowledge through the faculty’s 7 academic and research centers: Investment Center (SET IC), Asia-Pacific Tourism (CAPTOUR), Center of Excellence and Event Business Services (HEPSAC), Center of Excellence in Mice Industry and Business Events, Business Innovation Center and Business Events (CEMBEI), Center for Business Innovation and Smart Entrepreneurs (BIC), Center for Incubating Business for Fine Agricultural Society (SOBICPA), Center for Business Strategy Development (BUSDEC). In addition, we will build networks for collaboration with external academic institutions and leading organizations both in and outside for exchange of students and strengthening them in academic.”
Finally, Dean of the Faculty said “For certified AACSB, only less than 5% of institutions in business administration all over the world receiving the standard can be certified. However, AACSB required strict processes for investigation and evaluation of different components which means several years of investigation. An institution needs to implement the work until it is accepted based on the 21 standards of AACSB. However, lecturers and staff dedicate themselves continuously in instructional development and quality. There are also programs that meet the needs of business. Thus, the faculty is ready to drive forwards the changing processes that will lead us towards excellence in becoming Khon Kaen Business School that belongs to Khon Kaen University, the Northeast and the Me Kong sub-region. The school will build capable and knowledgeable businessmen, accountant, entrepreneur not second to any other universities in the world”
