On June 13, 2017 at 3.00 p.m. at the Food and Service Center 1, Khon Kaen University, an opening ceremony was held to introduce the new machine that automatically prints KKU Academic Document (KAD) with an automatic cash adding machine to serve students and graduate students. On June 9, 2017, the same kind of machine was opened for use at Nongkhai Campus with Asst. Prof. Dr. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Communications, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prapansak Chaweerat, Director of the Office of Academic Development and Administration, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pattarawit Polpinit, Deputy Director of the Office of Academic Development and Administration met the press. Many administrators, lecturers, staff and students attended with interest.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prapansak Chaweerat said, “Formerly students can ask for their KAD online and the document will be sent by mail or students come to pick it up. There was limitation in paying through the bank, for students have to wait until the next day. Picking up the document also has to be during office time and days. The whole process is then slow, especially for Nongkhai students who have to travel to Khon Kaen. The Office of Academic Development and Administration therefore developed this machine that also is in service around the clock and so is very convenient and quick. Students only need their ID card to run the machine and the money-adding machine.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Denpong Soodphakdee said, “This cutting edge automatic machine was thought about as a concept 4-5 years ago. Then RFID was new and its developmental direction was not stable. However, with Khon Kaen University far vision into the future and the university’s goal of a smart campus, the ID of staff and students have been changed to a smart card with RFID technology. Now, this RFID technology is accepted and has been developed on a wide scale. KKU has also laid foundation and for appropriate use of this technology. Now, students can use their smart card for library service, for getting on KKU Shuttle Bus, for applying for a scholarship. It is also the prototype for getting on Khon Kaen City Bus. The machine only requires money-adding RFID smart card, which was opened on April 23, 2017. Both students and staff can use their ID card, which is the smart card of the same system to add money and use Khon Kaen City Bus without having to make a new card.”
