A natural disaster is a phenomenon that we cannot foretell. There can always be drought, flood, and cold weather, all of which are hard to control. The impacts from natural disasters can cover wide areas, and the victims in trouble need assistance as urgent as possible. Khon Kaen University, the first university in the Northeast, was founded in order to develop the quality of life of the people in the region. Therefore, the people’s troubles are the university’s responsibilities to assist.
The Khon Kaen University’s Society Care and Assistance Project has been established to help the community people in all aspects, especially those living near the campus. This time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kriengkrai Kitjaroen, Vice President for Arts, Culture, and Community Relation together with Mr. Bancha Phraphon, Assistant to the President for Arts, Culture, and Community Relation Society, and Mr. Chumporn Para, Director of Communication Division represented the university to give 200 blankets to the people in Ban Tha-Kae-Bueng Ithao, Sila Sub-District, Muang District, Khon Kaen Province on December 28, 2017. The villagers who received the blanket were happy and grateful.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kriengkrai Kitjaroen, Vice President for Arts, Culture, and Community Relation revealed that the Khon Kaen University’s Society Care and Assistance Project responds to one of the university foundation objectives and responds to Khon Kaen University’s third development strategy of 2013-2019: Culture and Care Community – enhancing and nurturing art and culture, local wisdom, and caring communities in various dimensions. At the same time, the relationships between the university and the communities are promoted, and this is where the major and efficient foundation of national development is. In other words, it is believed that the stability and strength of the country comes from happiness and good quality of life of the people.
Mr. Maitree Boonphrarit a villager aged 73 years old of Bueng Ithao, Sila Sub-District, Muang District, Khon Kaen Province said, “Although we are a small village here, the university never neglects us. No matter if they are students, staff or ajarns, they often provide us with knowledge. We are on a low land and flooding is normal as well as cold weather. Thanks to the university for taking care of us just like we are kin.”
Khon Kaen University is therefore an institution of knowledge and readiness to take care of the communities and society, especially during the crisis. The communities will see that we are always there to assist them, as in the objective, “The University of Social Dedication”, which has been practiced for 53 years after the foundation.
