At the 42nd Annual Meeting of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME42), which has been held continuously since 1977 for 42 years, Thailand was announced officially to host the 44th Annual Meeting of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME44) in July 2020. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Intaraprasith will be the chairperson of the meeting. This is considered a great progress and pride of Thailand’s and the Me Kong’s mathematics society. The meeting will be supported by Mathematics Study Association, Center for Mathematics Study Research and Center for Mathematics Excellence.
Besides, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Intaraprasith, Dean of Faculty of Education at KKU was selected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), as a PME International Committee (IC). This is due to the fact that Khon Kaen University founded the ASEAN Teacher Profession Research and Development Institution in 2013, as an organization to carry out the work of Center for Mathematics Study Research in managing APEC Lesson Study project for over 15 years. Moreover, Thailand was assigned to host EARCOME 6 in 2013 at Prince of Songkhla University, Phuket campus. There were also other jobs related to mathematics studies in the Me Kong region under ICMI’s Capacity and Network Project (CANP 3) which have been ongoing since 2013. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Intaraprasith, at present acting Director of ASEAN Teacher Profession Research and Development Institution, President of Mathematics Study Association, and Head of the Development Project for Advanced Thinking in Mathematics of Students in the Northeast, is therefore trusted and selected as a PME (PME International Committee (IC))
PME42 was held on July 3-8, 2018 at Umea University, Sweden. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Intaraprasith and 5 other representatives of Mathematics Study Association attended PME42 and presented the information for hosting the meeting in Thailand in the next 2 years.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Intaraprasith has always been determined to lead members of mathematics study society to various international meeting and to present their research work. For PME meetings, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree has presented his works since PME 17 in 1993 at University of Tsukuba, Japan; PME 20 in 1996 in Spain until PME 24 in 2000 in Japan; PME 29 in 2005 in Australia; PME 30 in 2006 in Republic of Czech; PME 33 in 2009 in Greece, where he has led over 33 graduate students in Mathematics Study Program to present their research studies. Then at PME 35 in Turkey in 2011 he led 30 graduate students to present their work. At PME 36 in Taiwan in 2012 another group of 32 students went with him to present their research work. Graduate students were led to PME 37 in German in 2013, PME 41 in Singapore in 2017, and PME 42 in Sweden in 2018. Hence, Thailand deserves to be selected as the host for PME44.
