KKU COLA students learnt about research in quest for new piece of knowledge

The present day people have to encounter with more complicated troubles due to rapid social changes. It is important therefore, for people to find up-to-date methods for problem solving and this is where research methodology in social studies that helps generate new piece of knowledge can play a role in.

Two of COLA administrators, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sapawatanagorn Wongtanawasu—COLA’s Dean and Founder, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pirasit Kumnuansil, co-taught a course entitled, “Research Methodology in Public Administration” for COLA’s freshmen. The instruction provided basic foundation to the disciplines that the students have to hold on to throughout the course time.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pirasit Kumnuansil said methodology in public administration research is scientific since it involves learning to plot pieces of knowledge from a pattern of public administration mission. Accuracy of measurement should be prioritized in social studies research. Since public administration evolves around the government office exercises, therefore it becomes more challenge to have a control over the accuracy of the research interpretation and data analysis. Having clear research design and methodology helps render accuracy in social studies research.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sapawatanagorn Wongtanawasu said one of the indicators of higher education achievements relies on the questions that the students raise in the classroom. Asking good questions reflects the students’ desire to make a better change for the community. Good research questions are fundamental for success in social studies research. As a teacher, then one of the ominous degrees of the course success is dictated via a proportion of students who can generate good research questions. The questions asked in research work pave way to problem solutions based on social studies research discipline. Moreover, the extent to which the research findings help escalade standard of living and benefit social development is another indicator of the course success.

At the end of the class, the students were assigned to retrospect the previous research questions that had high impact on social change. The students had to look into how the answer to the question was obtained and what changes were made in the community based on the findings of the asked questions.
