Wednesday November 14, 2018 – Khon Kaen University by Alumni Relation Section of Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation will hold a worshipping ceremony towards the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit for the goodness and prosperity of staff and students.
Miss Ratchanee Ketkaew, Head of Alumni Relation Section of Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation said that Khon Kaen University held the spirit house foundation in June, 1966. The Great Spirit House has been revered since then. All newcomers are to pay homage and worship the Great Spirit of Mo Din Daeng before settling in to live, study, or work on campus. Therefore, to promote precious, valuable, and graceful art and culture and for prosperity and goodness of staff, students and general people, Khon Kaen University has continuously organized the worshipping ceremony of the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit every year. In 2004, the administrators decided to renovate the Great Spirit House on the 40th anniversary. Alumni Relation Section of Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation has been assigned the responsibility over the Spirit House and the surrounding area. The worshipping ceremony is organized to show KKU folks’ faith and respect towards the Great Spirit. Besides, there is now campaign for raising Mo Din Daeng fund at the place of Great Spirit of Mo Din Daeng.
Mr. Bancha Phraphon, Director of KKU Cultural Center said that the worshipping ceremony of the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit is an annual tradition of Khon Kaen University. The Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit House is a spiritual anchor and the sacred place of Mon Din Daeng. New staff and students, upon arrival on campus, will pay homage to the Great Spirit first for safety stay here and smooth and successful studying or working on November 14 of every year. Cultural Center, as the unit responsible for cultural and traditional occasions takes responsibilities over the event. This year, the worshipping ceremony features Thai classical music performance and classable drama, which are shown every year.
On the day at 8:00 a.m., President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai will change the attire of Phra Buddha Panya Mettadham, and worship the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit. This is followed by Brahmin’s ritual of inviting angels and recital of words of blessings. Students of the classical dancing program, performance art of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts will perform the classical music and dancing. Thai classical will be played by students of Thai music of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Moreover, there will be Mo Lam contest, indigenous sport contest. In the evening there will be classical drama, dancing, Mo Lam and other shows, which will come to conclusion at 12:00 a.m.
