Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok visits KKU to strengthen academic research and innovative collaboration

On March 12, 2020, at 14.00 hrs. at Sirikunakorn 5, 6th floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Miss Alexandra McKenzie, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok, along with representatives from the British Embassy in Thailand, visited the administrators of Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, Assoc. Prof. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Vice President for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Waranuch Pitiphat, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, Asst. Prof. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs and Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, Assistant to the President for Research and Graduate Studies, together with the deans from many faculties welcomed her delegations.

This was the first visit of Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok and her delegates. They visited the tropical laboratory, Anatomical Pathology department, Faculty of Medicine which has a famous research center on Cholangiocarcinoma in national and international level, also they visited the researchers who received the Newton Fund scholarship in order to monitor the project. Moreover, there was a discussion on academic and research innovation as a world-leading university, other further collaborations.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University said “it is my great pleasure to express a very warm and cordial welcome to the honorary Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy Bangkok, Miss Alexandra McKenzie and all delegations on your visit to Khon Kaen University today. Khon Kaen University has a good long relationship with the British Embassy Bangkok. Importantly, there are many academic collaborations such as University of London, University of Liverpool, Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, and University College London and We are very grateful that the British Embassy Bangkok has continuously supported KKU in various initiatives, including staff and student exchange, research collaboration, workshops, seminars, and building institutional links. Especially, in the field of Cholangiocarcinoma, led to very strong and world-renowned publications. KKU and the British Council Thailand have been working closely in organizing the FameLab, one of the biggest sciences and communication in the world. Students and staff of KKU have actively participated in the FameLab competition every year. One KKU student won Thailand championship in Thailand in 2017 and our lecturer from the Faculty of Science also won the national championship in 2020.
