Srinagarind Hospital Deploys Mobile Medical Unit to Improve Healthcare Access in a Remote Khon Kaen Community

The outreach initiative under the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation provides comprehensive medical services and essential supplies to bridge healthcare gaps in Nong Song Hong District.

Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, deployed a mobile medical unit under the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer (PMMV) Foundation to Ban Dong Keng School in Dong Keng Sub-district, Nong Song Hong District, Khon Kaen Province, on Wednesday 27 May 2026. The initiative aimed to improve the community’s quality of life and facilitate equitable access to healthcare for residents in remote areas.  The delegation of specialist physicians, nursing staff, and medical personnel was led by Associate Professor Katcharin Phunikom, M.D., Ph.D., Deputy Director of Srinagarind Hospital, alongside Associate Professor Jarupong Saengboonmee, M.D., and Lecturer Worachart Lertitthiporn, M.D., who collaboratively managed the high volume of citizens seeking medical attention.

The opening  ceremony was presided over by Mr. Khajornkiet Rakpanichmanee, Governor of Khon Kaen Province, as part of the provincial outreach operation titled “Alleviating Suffering, Promoting Happiness, and Creating Smiles for the Citizens”. The ceremony was attended by senior regional figures, including the President of the Khon Kaen Red Cross Chapter, the Khon Kaen Provincial Chief Medical Officer, senior executives from various public health agencies, the District Chief of Nong Song Hong, local administrative leaders, sub-district headmen (Kamnan), and village headmen.

The mobile service offered a range of treatments, including general outpatient check-ups and diagnostic ultrasound sessions. Health education and counselling stations were also established to promote community well-being. These included public health booths run by the Social Medicine Department, disability support services provided by the Social Work Department, and oncological awareness exhibits by the Cancer Unit and the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU).

In support of local health needs, Srinagarind Hospital donated medical equipment and essential goods to assist vulnerable residents. The contributions included two folding wheelchairs, four walking frames, four cartons of surgical masks, 12 wound-dressing kits, bedpans and male urinals, and a supply of essential home medications.

The deployment was warmly received by the local community, with residents expressing gratitude to the medical professionals from Srinagarind Hospital for bringing healthcare directly to their communities. Residents noted that the mobile unit significantly reduced financial burdens and travel barriers, proving especially beneficial for older adults, immobile patients, and individuals living in more isolated areas. Access to expert medical consultations and preventive care has strengthened local self-reliance, reaffirming public trust in the shared mission of government agencies and KKU to achieve health equity and enhance the quality of life across all communities.
