Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University conveyed an opening address for the event and gave a special talk on, “Policy and Direction of Khon Kaen University for the Transformation of the Academic Service Bureau.” A key point in his talk was the upgrading of the Academic Service Bureau to a College of Arts and Sciences to answer the University’s Education Transformation strategy, People Transformation, New Learning Paradigm, the changing of needs of each generation, and the needs of graduate employers. These are the factors that influence the University in which graduates are prepared and trained for the society; such that they are ready to work under the new economic era that is facing a lot of transformation in information technology and the industrial system 4.0. The changes necessitate the skills for their jobs and their ways of living in the future.

The duties and roles of the college will be divided into 3 categories:

  1. Academic service for the community – this is the former mission that will move on, but will integrate the Strategic Research and Coordination Institute for Northeast Development and the Research Institute for Social Development, for the missions are similar. When integrated, the academic service mission will cover more aspects.
  2. Designs of learning programs for all age levels – or life-long learning – the instruction will be managed in a modular and non-degree system. New working skills will be taught that meet with the future needs. Re-skill and Up-skill will be incorporated.
  3. Designs of new outcome-based programs, with cross-disciplinary integration such as the

Culinary Science and Technology program to train chef with knowledge in food technology and art or the AI in Healthcare program, etc.
