KKU is representing Thailand as a Project Overseer under APEC HRDWG for project presentation at the 2022 APEC

May 9-12, 2022 – Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Services and Acting Director of the Institute for Research and Development of Teaching Profession for ASEAN, joined the meeting of an APEC working committee in human resource development (HRDWG) and the meeting of the educational network (EDNET) at Shangri La Hotel Bangkok, as the Thailand representative. The activities were organized in Hybrid format, with both online and onsite participants from 22 countries all over the world. At the meetings, those responsible for the projects presented the progress of their implementation, which was under the framework of APEC. Participants also had a chance to exchange experiences and knowledge in education in APEC Region in Online and On-site the 21st Century.

Dr. Wang Yan, Education Network Coordinator, APEC Human Resources Development Working Group (APEC HRDWG) joined the meeting online. Dr. Somlak Samansin from the Higher Education Commission (Thailand); Assoc. Prof. Bandit Tipakorn, Ph.D., Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi; and Khun Sarun Vacharaphai, a professional educator from the Office of Overseas Higher Education Strategy, were the keynote speakers.

This year, Khon Kaen University is doing the duty as a Project Overseer under the APEC HRDWG by presenting the proposal of the Project on: “Online Workshops for Lesson Study 2.0: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science for Education in APEC Economies” with the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, while CRICED, University of Tsukuba is representing Japan as another Project Overseer.

Formerly in 2005, the Center for Mathematics Education of Khon Kaen University and the Office of Overseas Higher Education Strategy of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, represented Thailand and joined with CRICED, University of Tsukuba and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan to present the Project on “A collaborative study on innovations for teaching and learning mathematics in different cultures among the APEC Member Economies”. This project was approved by the EDNET Forum and the APEC Human Resource Development Working Group (APEC HRDWG) in their meetings, respectively.

Following this, there emerged the following different projects that have been financially supported from APEC, the Office of Overseas Higher Education Strategy of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation continuously until the present days:

  1. Innovative teaching mathematics through lesson study (2006-2008)
  2. Mathematics textbook, e-textbooks and education tools (2009-2011)
  3. Emergency Preparedness Education (2012-2014)
  4. Cross-border Education and STEM Education (2005-2017)
  5. Bridge 12 years of APEC Lesson Study to InMside High Quality Curriculum for Digital Economies (2017-2018)

And 6. Inclusive Mathematics for Sustainability in a Digital Economy (InMside) (2019-2021)
