Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council gave a special talk on “Global Challenges and Digital Transformation: the immediate challenges to tackle”. “The relationship between Thailand and the world powerful countries”, Dr. Narongchai concluded, “has changed the structure of basic problems very fast. We have to rely on digital technology to assist in administration and management. We have to work faster and better. I’d like to quote the saying of Mark Carney in the book called Value, the best seller of last year. He said that digitalization is based on design and not by default. The adoption of digital technology must follow a directional channel, with planning and design. It cannot be implemented with no control, or left it to go on on its own. His meaning is that we must know who will benefit from the technology and what for. Therefore, KKU folks should have expectations and support those who are working with digital transformation technology. We should cooperate in systematizing, mitigating different problems that arise along the way, as well as mitigating the problems confronted by the world at present.”
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University gave a talk on “ERP big jump in university operation. One important part of the talk was that Khon Kaen University has set the vision and expectation for Khon Kaen University to be a smart campus and a smart university. The answer to this vision is digital technology. “I believe that to change Khon Kaen University into a paperless university or a digital organization, the back office system must first rely on ERP. That is the background behind two strategies of Khon Kaen University: the 5th Strategy – Management Transformation and the 8th Strategy – Digital transformation.”
“Khon Kaen University has set plans to apply an information system for the whole organizational management. The Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP is going to be used for planning the organization’s resources so that the resources are utilized to their fullest extent. The information system within the organization must be able to integrate principle jobs, and all sections in the university are connected. The targets of the development are: 1) The major processes of all systems must be linked together and the work is continuing. 2) Redundancy of jobs is reduced by using more automated processes. 3) There is the database system that functions in real time. 4) The jobs can be done by multiple electronics devices.”
