KKU joins the province in nurturing Isan art, culture and tradition by sending over 200 staff and students to perform worship dance towards the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen City and celebrate the city’s 225th anniversary

Khon Kaen University, by over 200 administrators, lecturers, staff and students joined in the worship dance towards the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen and celebration of the 225th anniversary of the city. The worship dance is meant for the prosperity and expression of the unity of Khon Kaen people. The event took place at the Great Spirit House of Khon Kaen, and the occasion also marked the official commencement of the 2022 Silk Festival, which is scheduled from November 29 to December 10, 2022.

KKU joined in performing the dance to worship the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen City

Monday November 28, 2022 – Khon Kaen Province held the worship dance towards the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the city. The event also marked the beginning of the 2022 Silk Festival – also the Phuk Siaw Tradition and the Khon Kaen Red Cross Fair, which is scheduled on November 29 to December 10, 2022. The dance was performed at the Great City Spirit House of Khon Kaen and began at 16:30 p.m. Mr. Kaisorn Kongchalad, Governor of Khon Kaen Province presided over the ceremony by leading the participants to worship the 10 sacred beings of the city. Then the worship dance began, which was performed by over 25,000 dancers including Khon Kaen citizens, officials, businessmen, and students from the 26 districts. KKU sent more than 200 staff members, lecturers, and students to join the dance.

Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs of Khon Kaen University was the chairperson for Khon Kaen University Identity Promotion Project at the 2022 Silk Festival. The Assistant to the President explained, “The worship dance towards the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen is a good activity that demonstrates the unity of Khon Kaen people from all organizations. KKU has joined this project for the 4th time, and it should be appreciated that the activity is well participated by 200 KKU administrators, staff members, students and school pupils. At the worship dance, the University has made a request for the presence of Chao Po Mo Din Daeng, one of the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen and the being that KKU people have always respected to the venue. This also enhances the good image of the University to be seen by the community and people in a broad scale. The event is meant also to nurture Isan art, culture, and tradition.”

Mrs. La-or Khoyun, a staff member from KKU Library expressed her feeling in joining the activity that she has performed the worship dance every year since the first time. She has the intention to join the activity every time, for it enables her to take part in activities with the University. This will bring to her prosperity, for the worship is towards the 10 sacred beings of the city including the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit. She is proud to be a Khon Kaen citizen who has the chance to dedicate herself and create good deed for the society. She wished KKU people to join this event in the future.

Mr. Krittapong Sripraya, a second year student majoring in performing arts of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts also expressed his feeling in the activity. He said he was very excited for it is his first time to dance as a KKU representative to lead all the dancers. He was impressed with Khon Kaen people who show their love and faith towards the sacred beings of the city. This could be seen from the number of people that joined. If he had a chance, he would come again next year. He would also ask more friends to join the activity in the future to demonstrate that KKU participates with the community’s activities.

Miss Jutarika Pasong, from the Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University said that she intended to join the event and asked to come with the elder staff from the Faculty. She went to practice every day and thanked the administrators of Khon Kaen University and the team from the Communications Division, who helped facilitate everything for the dancers from the rehearsal until today. Everything went on smoothly, beautifully, and brought with it prosperity. She is proud to be part of the activity and was greatly impressed.

The 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen include: Phra Buddha Aphaimongkhon Mangkhee, Phra Buddha Phra Lap, Kham Kaen Sacred Relic, the Great Mo Din Daeng Spirit of Khon Kaen University, the Great Khon Kaen City Spirit House, Phra Nakhon Sri Borirak, Chao Po Mahesak, Phra Buddha Mahajak Kaennakhon of Nong Waeng Royal Monastery, Luang Po Yai from Wat Klang Monastery, Phra Buddha Rangsiyophas Sukpipat from Saeng Arun Forest Monastery. This year the dancing was performed with 4 songs, namely, Khon Kaen Today, Phuk Siaw Dance, Dok Khun Siang Khaen Song, and Sao Isan Ro Rak, the last one was for free-style dancing.

The worship dance towards the 10 sacred beings of Khon Kaen was performed at the Great Khon Kaen Spirit House. The first time it was performed was in 2018. The event has been held for prosperity of the city people and to demonstrate the unity of Khon Kaen people. The dance is performed before the beginning of the International Silk Festival, Phuk Siaw Tradition, Khon Kaen Red Cross Fair, and the 2022 Khon Kaen Soft Power Fair, which are officially scheduled from November 29 to December 10, 2022.
