Faculty of Education holds the “2023 National Thai Language Day” to conserve and succeed Thai identities

August 5, 2023 – Department of Thai Language Teaching, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, organized the “2023 National Thai Language Day” to promote and conserve Thai language usage. The opening ceremony of the event, held at Saisuree Jutikul Room, Faculty of Education, was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjak, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty. Participants were lecturers, students, teachers and students of the network schools.

Every year, July the 29th is celebrated as it is stipulated as the “National Thai Language Day”. The objectives are to enhance and instill in the mind of all Thai people the awareness of the importance and the values of Thai language and to campaign for collaboration in nurturing and conserving Thai language. This year, the students majoring in Thai Language Teaching of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, organized the “National Thai Language Day” just like every year to enhance the values of Thai language, for people to see the importance of Thai language, and to promote the correct usage of Thai language. The event is also a venue for students to present their works and for them to obtain experiences in working together to accumulate skills and expertise in Thai language teaching for their future occupation.

The activities in the 2023 National Thai Language Day this year comprised an academic forum on the “Thai Language Style in Creative Dimension” by Asst. Prof. Tanes Wespada, Ph.D., President of Thailand Language and Book Association under the Royal Patronage; Thai language contests for elementary and secondary school levels, including contest of story writing from pictures, relating folk tales, poem contest, and intelligence in Thai language. The opening ceremony also featured a stage drama, “Smell of Love The Musical”, a drama played by using poetic verse from the literature: “Mathanapatha” composed by King Rama IV, King Mongkut. The content presented the perspective towards sadness from love and was presented in a new dimension by modifying the story so that it corresponds to the present time.
