Assoc. Prof. Piansak Phakdee, Vice President for Student Development and Nongkhai Campus; Asst. Prof. Narin Chansri, Assistant to President for Student Development and Nongkhai Campus; Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrangsarit, Assistant to President for Special Affairs; Dr. Kittisan Sriraksa, Assistant to President for Art, Culture, and Creative Economy; and Mrs. Paphakorn Dolprasit, Director of Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation joined the procession and the opening ceremony which was presided over by Dr. Somsak Jangtrakoon, Khon Kaen Governor in front of the city hall.

The float of See It Group of KKU Student Union won the first prize of the procession, receiving HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s trophy, 60,000 baht and a certificate.

Mr. Teeranan Wanyosirisap, Chairperson for Art and Culture; Miss Kanyawee Chaiprathum, Chairperson for Isan Wisdom; and Mr. Pongsatorn Nampila, a sub-committee member of the Student Union reported that the making of the float every year is cooperated by freshmen from the student unions of all faculties. This year, the float is under the concept that conveys the meaning of cloth that is related to all steps of living in Buddhism, monarchy and lifestyles.

The float was divided into 3 parts: 1) Faith – with the pattern of cloth denoting worshipping in Buddhism and sacred things; 2) Development – showing respect and honor towards monarchy that brings happiness to the rural areas, especially HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who has nurtured and supported culture and heritage and geology. 3) Wisdom – denoting Phuk Siaw tradition between Thai and Lao and agreement to be life-long friends. There was the story of bai sri su khwan on the float and local wisdom in weaving mad mee materials.

Mr. Pongsatorn Nampila, a sub-committee member of the Student Union said that student activities are used as a trick to have students of different faculties to join together and work for the union. There are exchanges of culture and academic matters and many times are like an academic venue. Besides, students build voluntary minds and learn to allocate time, for we have to manage time properly, for this activity was during the examination period. However, we passed through this very well each year. Thanks to See It Group for helping making the float and supporting the activity.

Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrangsarit, Assistant to President for Special Affairs ended by saying that the support of dresses for the Silk Beauty contestants will bring good reputation to Khon Kaen University, for the contest is broadcast on all channels with the pictures of 39 contestants this year. It is the first time Khon Kaen University has taken more roles at the festival. We also contribute by providing Isan art and culture through performances by the students of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at the central stage.

The 2019 International Silk Festival and Phuk Siaw Tradition is the greatest annual festival of Khon Kaen Province that is cooperated by all organizations, official and private.
