Khon Kaen University Discusses Academic Cooperation with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University

Khon Kaen University (KKU) welcomed a delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University (USSH-VNU), to explore opportunities for academic collaboration, particularly in humanities and social sciences.

On 20 January 2026, Khon Kaen University, led by Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, along with Assistant Professor Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for International Affairs, and executives from the College of Local Administration, the College of International, and the Faculty of Architecture, formally welcomed a delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University (USSH-VNU), Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The visiting delegation was headed by Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, President of USSH-VNU, for a meeting held at Khon Kaen University to discuss academic cooperation.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul expressed his pleasure at the consultation, commending USSH-VNU as a long-established institution specialising in humanities and social sciences. He emphasised Khon Kaen University’s readiness to develop academic cooperation, including faculty and student exchange programmes and joint research projects.

The President of Khon Kaen University also noted the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam. He shared KKU’s plans to collaborate with the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to establish a “Vietnam Studies Centre” within the university, expressing a strong desire for academic support from USSH-VNU in terms of knowledge, textbooks, and expertise in Vietnam Studies.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, President of USSH-VNU, thanked Khon Kaen University for the warm welcome and expressed his intention to develop beneficial collaboration for faculty, students, and research. He highlighted USSH-VNU’s expertise in humanities and social sciences and its role in translating knowledge to support public policy development. Furthermore, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan indicated USSH-VNU’s interest in promoting its Thai Studies Centre and hoped for continuous exchange and cooperation on Thai Studies and Vietnam Studies with Khon Kaen University.

Following the meeting, the USSH-VNU delegation visited the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to discuss approaches for academic cooperation in areas of shared potential, further strengthening college-level understanding and partnership between the two institutions.
