The Queen Sirikit Heart Centre of the North-East conducts a comprehensive emergency simulation to ensure maximum safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
On 11 May 2026, the Queen Sirikit Heart Centre of the North-East (QSHC) conducted its Annual Fire Prevention and Suppression Drill for the year 2026. Organised by the “QSHC Fire Safety For All” Committee, the exercise aimed to enhance emergency preparedness and uphold rigorous safety protocols for patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors.
The simulation involved a realistic emergency scenario, beginning with the discovery of a simulated fire on the fifth floor within the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The drill commenced with a ‘Code Yellow’ announcement, subsequently escalated to ‘Code Red’, to initiate a systematic evacuation. Medical teams, nurses, and support staff coordinated the safe transport of critically ill patients from the wards via fire escape stairs, demonstrating efficiency under time-critical conditions.
The exercise was supported by close collaboration across multiple sectors, including the Khon Kaen University Security and Safety Division, Khon Kaen Municipality, and the Khon Kaen Highway Police. Additionally, network hospitals, rescue units, and local fire departments provided logistical support and emergency vehicles throughout the drill.

Beyond the physical evacuation, the event included a thorough review of ‘Code Red’ fire evacuation procedures. Personnel received practical training in fire chemistry and the correct operation of fire extinguishers. These sessions aimed to sharpen technical skills and build confidence, ensuring that staff can respond to real-life emergencies with speed and precision.
This annual drill is a vital component of QSHC’s commitment to patient safety and operational excellence. As a leading medical institution under Khon Kaen University (KKU), the Centre continues to prioritise international safety standards, ensuring that its infrastructure and personnel are fully prepared to safeguard patients and staff across the university community and beyond.
