Faculty of Education, KKU Partners with Shaanxi Normal University to Launch Prototype Curriculum “AI, Robotics in STEAM Education for K–12,” Elevating Student Competencies for the Future

May 18, 2026 – At the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, a significant academic milestone was achieved through the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Faculty of Education, Shaanxi Normal University, People’s Republic of China. This strategic partnership focuses on the development of a prototype curriculum, “AI, Robotics in STEAM Education for K–12,” spanning from kindergarten to upper secondary education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Issara Kanjug, Dean of the Faculty of Education, alongside the executive committee, co-signed the agreement with Prof. Sen Li (李森), Dean of the Faculty of Education, to drive an integrated learning ecosystem that connects thinking processes, core content, technology, and modern learning tools, while promoting lifelong learning opportunities and sustainable development.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Issara Kanjug, Dean of the Faculty of Education, stated regarding the strategic direction of this collaboration that this partnership marks a vital strategic step for the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, in developing innovative curricula tailored to the demands of the future world. It aims to prepare school-level learners with essential competencies in artificial intelligence, robotics, creative engineering, systems thinking, problem-solving, and innovative design linked with future industries. This initiative reflects the policy commitment to driving Thai education from “learning to know” toward “learning to create the future,” bridging schools, universities, research, technology, and future industries. The goal is to prepare Thai learners to become high-quality human resources in an AI- and innovation-driven world, aligning with the vision to be a leading faculty of education in ASEAN, focusing on educational innovation for sustainable development.

The core strength of this curriculum lies in its continuous learning design across all educational stages. It begins with establishing logical thinking foundations and technology exploration in early childhood, progressing to the design of AI and robotics innovations to solve real-world problems in upper secondary education. Furthermore, it integrates the STEAM Education framework into the context of modern human resource development, ensuring learners understand science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and their practical real-world applications.

By co-developing this prototype curriculum with Shaanxi Normal University, one of China’s leading institutions in education with outstanding expertise in educational technology, the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, becomes the first institution in the country to drive this educational model. This initiative reinforces the Faculty’s role as a hub for curriculum innovation and future-oriented learning at both national and regional levels.

In the initial phase, the curriculum will be piloted during the current semester at the Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, including both KKUDS and KKUIDS. This pilot project serves to establish a systematic model area for managing AI, Robotics, and STEAM Education before scaling up to network schools nationwide in the next phase. Schools interested in participating in the development network for the AI, Robotics in STEAM Education for K–12 curriculum can express their interest to partner with the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, in the upcoming period.
