The Faculty of Technology at Khon Kaen University (KKU) presented its geological research at the Thailand Research Expo 2026. The presentation aligned with the event’s central theme, “Research Synergy: Creative Research Power for a Sustainable Thai Economy and Society,” highlighting the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

Held from 22 to 26 June 2026 at the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok, the exhibition featured the project titled “Geological Resources Supporting Ancient Iron Smelting in the Khon Kaen Geopark: Evidence from the Distribution of Ancient Slag.” The research team was led by Assoc. Prof. Vimoltip Singtuen, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Digital and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Technology, alongside research assistants Mr. Thatchaphon Seela and Mr. Suphakrit Seesaphon. Funded by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the study was selected for display at the Programme Management Unit (PMU) pavilion.

Assoc. Prof. Vimoltip Singtuen, Ph.D. noted that the project aims to disseminate knowledge of geological and archaeological heritage conservation. By integrating scientific and technological methods to address questions at the intersection of the humanities and social sciences, the research provides substantive academic data to support the formal nomination of Khon Kaen Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

This work underscores the Faculty of Technology’s role as a leading institution in social and commercial innovation. By producing research that yields tangible and sustainable benefits, the project addresses key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in cultural preservation and sustainable community development.

The selection of this project for the expo reflects Khon Kaen University’s broader strategic mission to support social contribution and community engagement.
