October 28, 2022 – Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., KKU President; Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Services and administrators, staff and students went to Ban Dong Pong, Sila Sub-district, Muang District, Khon Kaen with articles donated under the project of Khon Kaen University’s care and assistance to the community during crisis, to distribute to people who have been affected by the recent flood.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., KKU President said that today many students were participating in the activity. It is good that the students help people when they are in trouble.
“I believe that such activity instills among our students the concern towards the society by coming out to give a hand to them. When the students graduate and work, besides success in their profession, they will also have public-mindedness wherever they are or work. If they care for the benefits and happiness of other people, then this will protect them and promotes them to succeed in their occupation,” said the President.
Mr. Pairat Taweewan, the Mayor of Sila, Muang District, Khon Kaen revealed about the flood that at Ban Dong Pong, Sila Sub-district, Muang District, Khon Kaen, there are over 1500 people from 400 households that have been undergoing hard time. The amount of rainfall was high and the water retained in the area for over a month. Animals as well as paddy fields were badly affected. The assessed losses were almost 100%.
“The assistance by giving out necessary articles from Khon Kaen University will be taken care of by the Head of Sila Sub-district. The households affected were enlisted and the articles will be brought to these households. The Sub-district is grateful to KKU President, administrators and students who come to help the people, who are greatly thankful to Khon Kaen University,” said Mr. Pairat.
Mr. Tanapon Janthaduang (Pop), a 3rd year student from the International College, KKU said that he liked doing activities besides studying. This enables him to help the community.
“Today, we come to help carrying the aid packages and giving them to the families that have been affected by the flood. There are eggs and preserved foods. I’m happy to be able to help. The activity lets me see many things besides learning in classrooms. I also meet friends from other faculties and it is a good chance to build connection with them,” said Tanapon.
Miss Pornkaran Yapollaha (Focus), a 2nd year student from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences said that she joins social dedication activities many times with Khon Kaen University and other universities.
“Today I helped carrying with my friends 400 packs of drinking water, and foods. There are many of them. I feel tired but happy to see the villagers coming out and waiting for us. I like doing activities of this kind with the University. I’ve good feeling after doing it. I hope there are activities of this kind again, for it trains us to care about the others. We can give a hand without hesitation. I’d like to ask friends from the University to donate more foods and articles to help people in your own province or anywhere,” said Pornkaran.
The project of Khon Kaen University’s care and assistance to the community during flood crisis is carried out every year under the intention of “social and community dedication”. The work is carried out by faculties and divisions in the university including the Student Union. This year, the project is carried out under the fiscal budget of 2023. Donation of rice, foods and drinking water was ongoing from October 6 until October 25. The articles are planned to be brought also to people in Ban Bueng Ithao and Ban Huay Sun, Sila Sub-district, and Ban Na Piang, Samran Sub-district on Wednesday November 2, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
